A neighbourhood room

Ember House is a neighbourhood dining room shaped by flame, smoke and the seasons.

The menu moves between small plates, fire-led dishes and late-night drinks, designed to be shared across the table.

Charred kingfish at Ember House — cooked quickly over flame to keep the centre clean and delicate, dressed with yuzu kosho, burnt citrus and shiso, finished with smoked oil.

What shapes the food

Three things the menu keeps coming back to.

A vegetable charred over open coals at Ember House, blistered edges catching the flame.

Flame

Cooking over fire creates more than smoke. It changes texture, sharpens flavour and gives each dish its own rhythm.

02 · Produce

Season

The menu changes with what is growing, landing and tasting best right now.

A fresh small plate at Ember House — produce dressed simply, shot close in soft light.
Wine being poured into a glass at the table, deep colour against dark timber.
03 · Cellar

Wine

The list moves between small Australian producers, considered imports and bottles chosen for food rather than status.

The kitchen

Cooking with restraint.
Finishing with fire.

Mika’s cooking draws on Japanese, Korean and South-East Asian flavours, shaped by years spent in Melbourne kitchens and a preference for simple ingredients treated with precision.

“Fire should reveal the ingredient, not hide it.”

Good to know

Before
you book.

  • Yes. Note anything when you book — allergies, intolerances or preferences — and the kitchen will look after the table. Most of the menu can be adapted with notice.

  • For larger groups and private dining a minimum spend can apply depending on the night and the room. We’ll confirm the details when you enquire.

  • We hold a handful of seats at the bar for walk-ins each night, but the dining room books out — a reservation is the surest way to a table.

  • Plenty. Vegetables sit at the centre of the fire menu, not on the side, and there’s always a full vegetarian path through a shared dinner.

  • Around two hours for most tables, which suits a few plates and a bottle. Larger groups and private dining are given more time.

  • Yes — step-free entry and an accessible bathroom. Let us know any access needs when booking so we can seat you well.

  • Of course. A small cakeage applies and we’ll plate and serve it for you — just mention it when you book.

  • Yes, vouchers are available for any value and make an easy gift. Ask the team or email us to arrange one.
